Salt Carriers re-imagines myth through storytelling and printmaking mediums. In eight varied audio interviews, each participant identifies a myth that they have inherited and then retells the same story in a way they feel better represents them. This could mean adding or replacing characters, changing the landscape, or rearranging the plot, etc. These recorded stories are compiled into an audio book. A print also accompanies each of the myths, which are collected into the Salt Carriers picture book.
This project was inspired by a desire to facilitate the imagining of fantastic stories and places where we continue to feel celebrated. It was developed and debuted as a solo exhibition at the 40th Street Artist in Residence (Philadelphia) in June, 2017.
